An important part of the job of being a legislator is to sponsor and pass legislation. Many of the ideas for potential legislation have come from constituents and a desire to resolve a problem that they have encountered in daily life.
I have authored a number of new laws on topics as varied as imposing state penalties for directing laser pointers at airplane cockpits, strengthening child labor law protections for minors working in the modeling industry, enacting rules to prevent dangerous accidents from falling soccer goals and increasing the criminal penalty for stealing a pet.
This year, I passed legislation to provide more information to members of business improvement districts, facilitate the identification of missing persons and improve food safety. I also regularly pass home rule legislation requested by local governments in the 91st Assembly District to help them provide services locally.
